Keep Conforming Gauze on-Hand as a Secondary Treatment
Conforming gauze is a type of highly flexible bandage that can be used to bind wounds in awkward places or wounds that cover a large surface area. Conforming gauze is sometimes used instead of other bandage types because it does not restrict the patients range of motion, but securely protects and tightly binds the injury. Typically, gauze is used as a secondary treatment to keep the primary treatment in place and to prevent bacteria from getting near the wound. Use gauze when a small amount of compression around the wound will help keep the patient intact and sterile. Gauze is a popular secondary treatment source because it is quite porous and therefore allows for airflow around a wound and uninterrupted circulation but lightly compresses the wound to prevent it from worsening.
